Functional Role: Mechanical Superintendent (on-site)

 

Scope of Functional Role:

The Mechanical Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical construction processes in the field.  The Mechanical Supt. will monitor the installation and quality of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with the IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings, and specifications requirements. The Mechanical SME will collaborate closely with the EPC Contractor and the Site Manager to ensure that the project is delivered according to contract plans, specifications, safety standards and budget, while addressing any construction challenges. 

Field-Level Oversight and Coordination 

    • Ensure Compliance with IFC Drawings: Ensure all mechanical systems, including racking and modules, are installed according to IFC drawings, notes, and contractual requirements. Report discrepancies to the Client Project Manager for contractor remedial action.
    • Inspections: Perform spot inspections of key areas and major mechanical installations to efficiently oversee the construction process.
    • Equipment Delivery Coordination: Coordinate site logistics with EPC contractor on material/equipment deliveries.
    • Identify Issues & Problems: Monitor for quality issues and any deviations from plans. Report issues immediately for prompt resolution.
    • Track Progress: Track the progress of activities required for invoice verification and permit compliance, ensuring all work remains on schedule and meets contractual obligations.

Monitoring, Inspecting and Reporting 

    • Pile Installation: Monitor pile installation rates and quality across the site, including pile remediation and testing efforts. Monitor daily pile driving speeds to assess subsurface conditions and flag potential refusal or predrill risks. Conduct walkdowns on a regular basis to review Contractor’s progress and QA/QC documentation.
    • Racking Installation: Monitor racking installation speed and quality, ensuring proper alignment, torque marks, and repairs/replacements of damaged components. Confirm that module mounting is done per IFC drawings and notes. Conduct walkdowns and report any discrepancies to Client Project Manager for corrective action.
    • Monitor QA/QC Programs: Observe the EPC contractor’s quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) program to confirm that project deliverables meet specified requirements.
    • Track Milestones: Monitor the construction milestones and confirm with the contractor that the project is being built in conformance with the design plans and specifications.
    • Identify Construction Challenges: When construction challenges arise, report them to the Site Manager to ensure prompt action and resolution.

Support Activities 

    • Discrepancy Reporting: Report any discrepancies in conformance with plans and specifications to the Client Project Manager.
    • Mechanical Issues: Oversee the resolution of mechanical issues related to the installation of racking, fences, and auxiliary equipment.
    • Project Close-Out Documentation: Review contractor-provided close-out documentation (Job Books) with the Project Construction Coordinator and Site Manager, reporting any discrepancies or inconsistencies to the Project Management team for further analysis and corrective actions.
    • Report Claims and Issues: Notify the Site Manager of any project claim occurrences and document any potential claims or safety violations.

Progress and Schedule Monitoring 

    • Monitor Contractor Milestones: Assist with monitoring the contractor’s adherence to the milestones schedule outlined in the EPC Agreement. Report any delays or discrepancies to Project Management to ensure timely remedies and adherence to Commercial Operations, Substantial, and Final completion dates.

Compliance

PEC will adhere to all safety, security, confidentiality, and professional conduct policies while on-site, as required by Client. This includes compliance with the Client’s Contractor Safety Requirements and any site-specific regulations.

The Mechanical Supt. role is critical to ensure that the project is delivered according to contract plans, specifications, safety standards and budget, while addressing any construction challenges.
